Yale Center for Health and Learning Games

Veronica Weser is a postdoc in the Yale Center for Health and Learning Games where she is part of a team creating and evaluating two games designed for tobacco use prevention: smokeSCREEN and Invite Only VR. smokeSCREEN is a free-to-play web and mobile app funded by CVS Health that has been shown to increase adolescent knowledge and risk perceptions of e-cigarettes, cigarettes, and other tobacco products. smokeSCREEN is available with a wealth of teacher support so that it can easily be included in school curriculums. Invite Only VR is a virtual reality game funded by Oculus Education that focuses on JUUL and e-cigarette prevention. Invite Only VR is currently in the final stages of development and will be evaluated for effectiveness in a randomized control trial this fall.

Veronica graduated from Vassar College with a BA in cognitive science and in Japanese. She was then a Fulbright Fellow in Japan where she researched developmental dyslexia in bilingual children. Following the conclusion of her Fulbright fellowship, she went on to receive her PhD in cognitive psychology from the University of Virginia. At UVA, she investigated user experience and motion sickness in virtual reality as part of a collaboration with Google VR.
